western civ. Blog #8!

Hello, Reader, My name is lane miller and today in western civ we dove deep into the different Grecian forms of government.

The begging
The first thing we did is we went over polis, The polis was a fundamental political unit used as kind of a state but for elections only. Then we went over a few government forms. The first being a monarchy which is where the place is ruled by a king(single ruler). the next one is an aristocracy, an aristocracy is a government ruled by the upper class, usually land-owning, family. And oligarchy, which is where the government is run by a small number of nobles. and finally, a tyranny, which is where you have a leader who one the support of the people to take power.

Who was all in politics?
Well, only a few types of people where allowed, you had to be male, be wealthy, and most certainly not be a slave. Well, what if you fell out of power and were ousted from the "cool kids". well, you could preemptively form connections with the military and seize control.  And after you do you could establish a tyranny, with you as the tyrant. modern-day tyrants are much different than ancient ones, modern-day tyrants are known to rule with fear as a weapon. while ancient ones were usually capable leaders.

Well, who were some of these leaders?
Draco was one of them!
some of the things Draco did:
-he made it that all Athenians rich or poor are equal under the law
-he did make death the punishment of many crimes though
-but he did make dept slavery legal
Solon!
what did he do?:
-he outlawed debt slavery
-he made it that any Athenian citizen could speak at the assembly
-and Any citizen could press charges against anybody
