western civ. online blog #18!

Today we had two objectives, one talk about life under a tyrant, and two the Roman government and how it compares to us'.

Tarquin was the 7th and last roman king, and to say the roman monarchy went out with a bang is an understatement. Tarquin was a tyrant, a very bad tyrant. Mr. shick supplied us with a story about his son, like in every situation with absolute power, it gets to your head. and that is not any different than Tarquin's son. One day Tarquin's son was out drinking when he met a pretty girl. Tarquin forced himself onto that girl saying he would kill her if she did not comply. she succumbed to the blackmail and told her family. her family was furious and started telling everyone they knew until the entire empire knew what happened. And with that, the people overthrew the father and son, and Rome would never have a king again.

The Romans, Like the greeks, are the fathers of the modern-day government systems. There are a lot of similarities between the united states government and the Roman government. for instance, they both have a judicial, executive, and legislative branch. The Romans had two "consorts" us has the president and the VP.  Both where the commander of the military. Both have sennets and houses. And both have a written  code of laws.
